HOW IT WORKS
A result to understand, not just read.
Enter annual gross pay, taxable bonuses and your filing status. The calculator estimates federal income tax and employee FICA, then applies the state and local rate you provide. Results are annual and per paycheck, so you can compare 12, 24, 26 or another number of payments.
- The U.S. profile uses 2026 federal income-tax brackets and the standard deduction for the selected filing status.
- Employee FICA includes 6.2% Social Security up to the 2026 wage base, 1.45% Medicare on wages and Additional Medicare Tax above the applicable threshold.
- State and local income taxes vary widely, so they are entered as a combined estimated rate rather than guessed from a ZIP code.
- Tax credits, pre-tax deductions and post-tax deductions remain separate so the estimate is easier to review.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does this calculate my exact paycheck?+
No. It is a planning estimate. Payroll withholding, benefits, retirement contributions, tax credits, state rules and local taxes can change the actual amount.
Which state and local tax rate should I enter?+
Use an effective combined rate from a recent pay stub, your state tax authority or a qualified tax professional. Enter zero only when no state or local income tax applies to your situation.
Does it include Social Security and Medicare?+
Yes. The U.S. profile estimates employee Social Security and Medicare contributions, including Additional Medicare Tax when applicable.
Can I use biweekly pay?+
Yes. Choose 26 payments per year. Semimonthly pay normally uses 24 payments.
