HOW IT WORKS

A result to understand, not just read.

Enter the one-way distance and choose whether to include the return leg. The calculator supports km/L or L/100 km for fuel vehicles and kWh/100 km for electric cars, then adds route charges and compares equal shares.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which consumption figure should I enter?+

Use an average from normal journeys or the recent trip computer reading, not the best laboratory figure. For an EV, use a realistic kWh/100 km value.

Does the main total include vehicle wear?+

No. The main figure is immediate spending. An optional €/km input creates a separate scenario for wear and variable vehicle costs.

Which electric charging price should I use?+

Use a weighted average of the energy you expect to obtain at home, at public chargers and at rapid chargers.

    RESULT GUIDE

How to calculate the real cost of a car journey

The calculator builds the full distance from the outward leg, return and detours, estimates fuel or charging energy, and then adds tolls, meals, parking and optional extras.

    01 · FORMULA

    Immediate spending and wear scenario

    Spending = energy + tolls + meals + parking + other costs

Fuel litres come from km ÷ km/L or km × L/100 km ÷ 100. EV energy is km × kWh/100 km ÷ 100. The wear scenario also adds km × the entered mileage cost.

    02 · WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: 450 km shared by two people

    • 450 km total
    • 16 km/L and fuel at €1.78/L
    • €28 in tolls
About 28.13 litres; €78.06 immediate spending; €39.03 per person.

Meals, parking, restricted-zone charges and ferries can be added; mileage wear remains visible separately.

03 · HOW TO READ IT

    How to interpret the result

    • Cost per 100 km makes routes, vehicles and energy prices easier to compare.
    • For an EV, use realistic consumption and a weighted charging price.
    • The per-person saving exists only when travellers actually share the cost.
    04 · LIMITS

What the estimate does not include

    • Traffic, gradients, weather, load and driving style can change consumption.
    • The mileage input does not automatically reconstruct insurance, tax and every ownership cost.
    • Route charges and charging prices should be checked for the actual journey.
