How much electricity does an air fryer use?

The rated wattage alone does not tell you the cost. Electricity use depends on kilowatts, actual running time, frequency and the price paid per kWh.

From wattage to energy use

Watts measure instantaneous power. Multiply kilowatts by running hours to obtain energy in kWh.

An air fryer may not draw maximum power continuously. Temperature, thermostat cycling and food load change the average.

  • 1,500 W = 1.5 kW
  • 30 minutes = 0.5 hours
  • 1.5 kW × 0.5 h = 0.75 kWh

Which kWh price should you use?

Use a price that is consistent with your bill and the question you are answering.

Fixed charges do not rise because of one cooking session. State whether your unit price includes them when comparing results.

  • Check energy and cost for the same billing period
  • Do not confuse kW with kWh
  • Use the same price method for both appliances

Air fryer versus oven

Rated power alone is not a fair comparison. Include preheating, cooking time, batch size and an equivalent result.

Run two realistic scenarios and, if possible, measure one cycle with a plug-in energy meter.

  1. Multiplying watts directly by the kWh price
  2. Treating rated power as measured energy
  3. Comparing unequal cooking times or food quantities
  4. Using an unexplained all-in or energy-only price

No. It uses 2 kWh only if it draws 2 kW continuously for one hour.
