HOW IT WORKS

A result to understand, not just read.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does child growth percentiles 0–5 work?+

The measurement is converted into a z-score using the WHO L, M and S values for the completed month; the z-score is then mapped to an approximate percentile.

What should I check before relying on the result?+

Home measurements and rounding can shift the result. Growth concerns, rapid changes or extreme values should be discussed with a paediatric professional.

    RESULT GUIDE

How to use child growth percentiles 0–5

Place a child’s weight and length or height on the WHO growth standards from birth to 60 months. The estimate uses age- and sex-specific LMS parameters and is intended to show a statistical position, not a diagnosis.

    01 · FORMULA

    Calculation method

    z = [(measurement ÷ M)^L − 1] ÷ (L × S)

The measurement is converted into a z-score using the WHO L, M and S values for the completed month; the z-score is then mapped to an approximate percentile.

    02 · WORKED EXAMPLE

    Practical example

    • Enter sex, completed age in months, weight and recumbent length or standing height measured with an appropriate technique.
The page returns approximate weight-for-age and length/height-for-age percentiles for the selected month.

Home measurements and rounding can shift the result. Growth concerns, rapid changes or extreme values should be discussed with a paediatric professional.

03 · HOW TO READ IT

    How to interpret the result

    • The trend across repeated standardised measurements is more informative than a single percentile.
    • Change one input at a time to understand which assumption has the greatest effect on the result.
    04 · LIMITS

What the estimate does not include

    • Home measurements and rounding can shift the result. Growth concerns, rapid changes or extreme values should be discussed with a paediatric professional.
    • Use the result as a planning aid and confirm sensitive financial, health or animal-care decisions with the relevant document or qualified professional.
